17 April 2006

Greetings from David Regan,

Initial responses to our new and improved website has been very favourable. If you haven't seen the new site you can find it at www.westbyfleetproshop.co.uk , unfortunately the link from the main club website is yet to be altered so will direct you to our old and very much out of date first effort at entering cyberspace!

Thank you to all of you who helped make our centenary fashion show such a great success. Both shows were well attended and thanks to the support of the ladies ection we managed to raise approximately £1400 for the White Lodge Hospice.

With summer on the horizon we see the return of the rolling monthly stableford, just pop into the pro shop, pay the £2 entry fee and play a competition round whenever you want. You can enter as many times as you like during each month

As I'm sure you will all have noticed, the old artisan clubhouse has been relocated from the car park to the top of the practice ground. Those of you who haven't seen its new position clearly aren't practising enough! This extra space will take some of the pressure off our currently overcrowded workshop, and allow us to get any trollies in need of repair back out on the course as quick as possible.

With spring well and truly sprung, the shop is now full to bursting with stock, and along with the new lines we have, there are also a few new offers to take advantage of.

If the long cold winter has seen the demise of your trolley battery then the new Squadron 24Ah may be of interest. Using the same gel technology as our top of the range Sonnenschein, the Squadron is currently down from £59.95 to £49.95.

Fancy a change from your usual ball? We have the new Srixon range in stock at prices that may tempt you away from the usual Titleist. With the Z-URS at £30 for a dozen it's a great value, but add to that a free top quality baseball cap, and it's a bargain. Don't forget the AD333 at £20, soft cover and low compression, similar characteristics to the So-Lo but £1.50 less per sleeve!

The Third Way

Following the success of last Fridays seminar, I thought it would be good to reproduce some of the highlights and key points for those of you who were unable to attend:

1/ Little But Often Practice: 30 swings or shots is much more effective than 180 balls once in 6 days.

2/ Short Game: Ideally 50% of your practice time. Pace is 80% more important than Line. Only use Spin where necessary. Approach putting is not the same as holing out.

3/ Why try to hit straight? Straight shots are not: The Longest - Don't Stop well - Don't Run Well, Don't Penetrate the Air well, Does Not help you avoid obstructions, Is not good from: Heather, Rough, Semi Rough, Sand, downslopes, poor lies. Because it is the hardest shot in the game to produce, one is faced with regular failure, which erodes confidence, ruins scores when it goes wrong, is impossible to maintain, hurts course strategy when it fails and drops you in big trouble.

4/ 'If you cannot hit a Good Shot, where do you want a bad one to go'? If you straight shot fails, where will it finish - the good players know - the lesser player hopes!

This and more is available on a £5 tape of £7 DVD, all proceeds going to the Captains Charity. As a bonus, we are including the Centenary Fashion Show on it too! All you men will love that!!!
